Back in February Great City had a nice informative post on green alleys.

At the moment, the city is hosting a competition for green alley designs. These alleys follow the following principles:

  • Welcome pedestrians, both as walkways and places to visit
  • Incorporate green stormwater infrastructure in both functional and aesthetic aspects
  • Encourage building design to provide doors, windows, and other elements that support non-service uses
  • Continue to provide access for service vehicles

It’s great to see that the city is big into this sort of thing and is even sponsoring programs to make these sort of improvements.. Recently I heard of Alley Art in Pioneer Square as well.  This is very good news for dense walkable communities. We are seeing these sort of things happen around the city and here is to hoping that it can come to Capitol Hill in the not too distant future.
